Hitler and Pearl Harbor

Did Hitler know of and approve the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, or was he unaware that it was going to happen? Hitler was many things, but he was not stupid. Surely he did not want the United States to get involved in the war (at least until he had dealt with the major European powers). Any clarification would be appreciated

Hitler was not aware, but as I note in this and this answer, Japan was viewed by Hitler as something of a 'force equalizer' to balance out the threat posed by American naval power.
