Will Durant alternative?

So I've been looking for an enjoyable read to give me a good overview of world history.

Durant's "history of civilization" series attracted me, and I've enjoyed reading it so far.

However, I've heard that it's content is dated, and biased, though a nice read.

Is there a better/more modern alternative?

Unfortunately, it's very difficult to write an overview of world history that isn't a textbook. Two books I would recommend, however, that cover very broad swaths of history from a global perspective are Jurgen Osterhammel's The Transformation of the World: A Global History of the Nineteenth Century (Princeton: Princeton University Press, 2015); and Peter Frankopan, The Silk Roads: A History of the World (New York: Bloomsbury Publishing, 2015). Both books are interested in the ideas of internationalism and globalism. They are also cutting edge scholarly syntheses published by leading academic historians. They are probably less fun to read than Durant and they are both serious time commitments, but they are neither dated nor biased (though that's a bit of a loaded term).
