Looking at the Asian turtle ships, they're remarkably different from European ships of the line. Why the weird design? Were sleeker ships not more efficient?
The sail design of asian ships did require less men than the sails of European vessels. The hulls of asian ships were also designed around lower water depths.
Though the main reasons for these differences is just because the ships were developed completely independently from one another.
