Ancient and Medieval soldiers most likely developed PTSD too. Was it as common as today? Did they have a way to cope with it?

I read in many sites that soldiers did get PTSD in antiquity and the Middle Ages too. But I'm curious, was it as likely, common and severe as it is today? Did they have a way to cope with it?

I assume that their culture and ideals could influence the "outcome". I also assume that Medieval knights, for example, could find some peace in religion, maybe by praying or believing he did a service to God?

This is, with the possible exception of 'Was Jesus real?', the most asked question on this subreddit. There are many questions and answers in the PSTD section of the FAQ
