Why was the aftermath of World War II chosen as the time for Judaism to ban polygamy worldwide?

European Jewry, which was most affected by the Holocaust, hadn't practiced polygamy since the 10-11th centuries CE. The only group still practicing polygamy were the Yemenite Jews, who were not affected at all basically by WWII and they stopped only because of the illegality of it in the modern state of Israel.
