There's a really good article on it by Kurt Wetland called "the diffusion of revolution." He essentially argues that the second French Revolution caused people to believe that a similar political change could occur in their state. He points out that there were different economic and political contexts in every state that revolution broke out in. It must have been common ideologies, and beliefs in one's cause whether success was realistic or not.
