Were there 'wild' communities in Western Europe? I.e were there small groups who chose to live in the wilderness rather than in the Feudal system under the lower nobility?

It seems that the peasantry in Medieval Europe were often malnourished and in general subject to the whims of their local lord, with hours upon hours of manual labour almost every day. Were there any groups that tried to just live away from it all in the forest?

The term of wild would have to be defined for me to know what you are talking about. Do you mean entire societies hidden from the rest of the world? Or just people defying the system ? Or even societies limitrophes to organized feudal societies but which haven't been conquered yet ? Also, what time period are we talking about ?
