According to what I remember from Russian history, any time young nobility needed sexual release, they're get themselves a young, pretty serf girl. And well, if she's impregnated, sucks to her. And I think it was Tolstoy who was exposed to a brothel by his brothers as a sort of "rite of passage" tradition in the 19th century. I mention Russian history because while I'm better versed in Russian than American history, I can see the parallels in America. They had slavery in America -- it's possible that they used young African American girls for that purpose. And of course, brothels, while never condoned by the general public, were always prevalent. I remember even reading a statistic that in the Victorian era, about 40% of the children born were illegitimate. Then in the more recent era, the 1940s, only 10% of couple actually waited till marriage. Compare that with 3% today who are waiting. Just some scraps of what I remember learning from history. Shows that culture wasn't necessarily more Puritanical compared to today.
