I got into a discussion about the aesthetics of the male vs female body -- hypothetically in a vacuum and without sexual attraction playing too much of a role -- and i started to think about historical artistic depictions and the involved subjects. the greeks idealized the male body with perfect proportions as one example. what are others? which sex has dominated the scene across cultures, or is more context needed?
If you go to any art gallery the subject of the art will usually be female, across the majority of cultures. Of course there are men there as well, but these tend to be the minority rather than the majority. Most celebrated art makers are male.
