I am a college student going into my sophomore year and am about to study history abroad in Berlin. I have a few books on WWII, as well as some smaller ones on general German history, but I'm looking to find more in depth books on specific events in German history I may have not ever heard of.
I have been trying to find a good complete book on the whole of german history but haven’t been really successful... (even asked my german teacher who had a history teacher friend, but both couldn’t recommend any book...) However, I did find « the shortest history of Germany » by James Hawe. It’s a quick read, doesn’t go much into the details, but gives a very good overview and has a fascinating theory (that I quite adhere to) that the Est-West divide goes back a very long time and that Germany has never really been fully unifies, always a mixture. I’m still looking for a general book, if I find one I’ll tell you!
Hi there, you might find the World War 2 section or the Germany section of the booklist to be helpful. Let me know if you've got requests for any specific topics.
