To start in January of 1940 many Polish Chess players were arrested and Jews in particular where barred from playing or in the case of many like the famous Dawid Przepiórka were deported and executed. Even ethnic Polls where banned from entering. [1]

1. A tie between German Anton Kohler and Russian born German Efim Bogoljubov both with 7.5 points.

2. Tie between Russian-French player Alexander Alekhine and German Paul Felix Schmidt both with 8.5 points.

4. Austrian Josef Lokvenc wins.

5. Efim Bogoljubov wins.

It is very important to point out that Alexander Alekhine was the only non-German who ever won. So as it would stand, yeah, these where rigged. Nearly all participants where German and any polish competition were imprisoned or killed.
