I read in a biography of George Washington that a newspaper was published in Philadelphia during the Continental Congress. The editor was reputed to attack George Washington unremittingly. What was the name of the paper? Was it opposed to Washington? Where can I find archived copies? Thanks for any help.
Which biography of Washington are you reading, and what do you mean by Continental Congress? The Continental Congress (technically the Confederation Congress at the time) was disbanded in 1789 when the first United States Congress met, when Washington was president.
If you're looking for an opposition newspaper in Philadelphia during Washington's administration, what you're probably looking for is the National Gazette, published from 1789-91 by Philip Freneau (not to be confused by the Federalist, pro-administration Gazette of the United States published by John Fenno.) The Library of Congress has digitized copies of the newspaper.
