Ethiopia is often hailed as one of few countries in Africa to escape European colonization (excepting a brief period of Italian occupation). I imagine there are numerous reasons for why Ethiopia was able to resist getting caught up in the scramble for Africa.
However, I am curious to what extent (if any) the high elevation of the capital city Addis prevented the capitulation of the country as a whole.
