Scipio is regarded as one of the most influential strategists of all time, but I can't seem to find articles about his vision and targets in his early days. What I mean is: surely he had to have some kind of a desired accomplishment other than expanding the Roman power, so what was his grand strategy about? What did he do in order to build the platform which helped him achieve his higher goals? Any suggestions or link to sources?
This question is really a bit difficult to answer because it does not really have a starting point so you would have to more specific.
Scipio Africanus is regarded as one of the most influential military strategists, rather than a political strategist which is probably why you cannot find any articles about his vision/targets. Presumambly, his targets would have been like most of the elite for the time - to extend the honour of their family through achieving political and military success. Even then, Scipio achieved this during the Second Punic War being put into a position quite quickly against what was expected and achieved success from it so he did not do much to build the platform, rather took his chance extremely well.
