I have a question about particular ring in the picture. I know for a fact (or rather was told so) that the inscription says Anulus (annulus) Svant, which makes perfect sense. However I really can't see it there. Could anyone help me to learn to read?
I think it's using scribal abbreviations for the 'n'; a line over a letter represents the omission of a following 'n' or 'm'. I read it as "[π-shaped character] ĀULUS SUĀT +" clockwise from the top. The S in 'suant' is rotated 90 degrees, and obviously the letter forms aren't so elegant.
