Is there any discipline of sports history that highlights this transformation? Lacrosse, to certain tribes located in the Northeastern Unites States and Eastern Canadian regions, has been a traditional sport for hundreds--if not thousands--of years. How did it become what it is today? It's now associated as an "Ivy League" sport, typically played among the upper-crust, white class of society--so much so to the point that it has become a sort of trope or meme in popular media. Do we know for sure how this transformation happened? How is it that, in an ironic twist, the staple sport of the American upper-class is borrowed from a now-dwindling and neglected native culture?
