Ahh, the Yugoslav wars and the war in Chechnya

I've been rooting about for sources on these late-twentieth-century conflicts (whose repurcussions arguably continue onto today) that focus on:

​

1. the civilian side of the conflict
2. views by people fighting on both sides
3. a few memoirs (preferably translated into english- I don't speak russian, serbian or anything like that-)
4. a comprehensive view on the after-effects of the war.

I read a good comic made up of a guy who made comics or something in Sarajevo before the siege hit, and then got evacc'ed by the UN after some dudes in the United States did some string pulling and I'm trying to find that again.

I'm also looking for some books on the soviet war in afghanistan, or a documentary (preferably available online) of some sort that looks at the war. subject matter is the same as above.
