As the story goes, men and women come together for, well, orgies on religious holy days. Graves describes masculine gods supplanting goddess worship, and war-like goat-herding men bringing the concept of marriage to Greece from the North.

I am interested to know if there is any historical accuracy here. Is there evidence of this dynamic actually existing?
