Can you... expand on your question? Chinese-based forces very much did conquer Tibet between 1720-1797, attempted a reconquest in 1911, and did so overwhelmingly (and rather famously) in 1950. Tibet was also conquered by the Mongols, who were then based in China, in the mid-thirteenth century.
