Answers MUST be properly sourced to respectable literature. Unlike regular questions in the sub where sources are only required upon request, the lack of a source will result in removal of the answer.
Academic secondary sources are prefered. Tertiary sources are acceptable if they are of academic rigor (such as a book from the 'Oxford Companion' series, or a reference work from an academic press).
The only rule being relaxed here is with regard to depth, insofar as the anticipated questions are ones which do not require it. All other rules of the subreddit are in force.

Lets say i k ow absolutely nothing about ancient history and all of the sudden wished to be an archaeologist, but wanted to learn quite a bit as to not embarrace myself by trying to go I to collage blind. Where would i begin? What should i learn first? Good documentaries? Follow a textbook? There is just so much history I am overwhelmed about where to start.
What are some good resources/books for researching/studying about the history of Poland? (either broadly covering portions of the last ~2000 years, or more specifically, the formation of Polish "statehood" and identity post ~1600).

Did the ancient world, (Like ancient greek, maybe when the old Egyptian kingdoms) have to deal with leftover Ice age and stone-age stuff? Like where their tribes of the absolute savage stone age "cavemen" coming upon "civilized" ancient greek cities, or some now extinct giant ice age animals that were still roaming the old forests when Rome was still rising, etc.
Like a guy carving stone for the first pyramids just sees some near-extinct ancient creature that we wouldn't know of because it went extinct in 3000bc, so on.

Charles Edward, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha was stripped of his British peerages with the Titles Deprivation Act of 1917, however that seems to cover only the peerages that his grandmother, Queen Victoria, gave his father, Prince Leopold. His status as a British prince was still technically covered under the 1917 Letters Patent that restricted such titles to children and male-line grandchildren of the Sovereign, and there was no secondary Letters Patent that specifically stripped him of his status as a British prince. Although the Titles Deprivation Act also targeted Ernest Augustus, Duke of Brunswick, also Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale before the Act went into effect, he was a great-great grandson of George III and thus not eligible to a British princely title and style after the 1917 Letters Patent, but Charles Edward still was.
Did he truly lose his title and style?
I vaguely remember (In my freshman year high school ancient history class) learning about one battle somewhere near the Alps(?) where someone used some animals with lights on them (or something) as a way to distract an opposing army, where they then rushed right behind the distracted opponent into Italy (I think). What was this battle called and/or who did it? I believe it had something to do with the Roman Empire.
I was blown away when I initially heard the story, and I'm desperately trying to recall it so I can read more on it.

Listening to a lecture today, the lecturer referred to Soviet Union in the year 1939 as Soviet Russia. Is it correct to call the entire formation of Soviet Union in year 1939 as Soviet Russia?

Anybody knows any book or research paper in which there is at least an approximate data about European total population from 17th century to modern day? I thought this should be easy to find but I am completely stuck for the past two days and I can't find any data no matter how I search. This is not for homework, before anyone asks or gets angry about, I wanted to look at this data while reading books about overall processes going on in Europe since the industrial age and I just wanted to see if there is any correlation between population size and growth and the events and processes in happening Europe during past few centuries.
I went through the booklist looking for book on Russia's empire history in 20th century or a book that would look at the main causes for the revolution in Russia. Most books there seem to be more or less introductionary-kind and focus on the revolution and aftermath. Is there some book that looks in detail at causes of the Russian revolution and maybe something that also looks in detail at the 1905 revolution in Russia?

Context: I am doing a project on Babylonian mythology, but despite doing my best to be well-informed on the subject matter, the books I read are roughly a 100 years and could be aged, or the sources are modern material and thus a snake pit because none of them seem to be able to agree. Some names in those sources add a dingir prefix, while others don't. There's no good source for the cuneiform, only some for romanizations. Tl;dr: really need an expert here.
