I was told in public school that Paul Revere rode a horse and told the town about the British.
I started homeschooling and the program showed a video of one of the teachers going to a church were Paul Rivere hung up a lantern to notify the town about the British.
Which one is true? Did he do both?
He did ride to warn New England towns of Regular troops attempting to seize powder stores, although he was not the lone rider of the popular imagination. He did not personally hang lanterns in the Old North Church, but coordinated the efforts of the church's vestryman and a sexton to do so.
