While I recognise the irony that we aren't, strictly speaking, disproving your first contention by allowing this post to stand, I would like to push back on your second point in particular. This is Ask Historians. Discussion, while welcome if it emerges in a productive and informed manner, is not our primary goal. Rather, we seek to provide a space in which people's questions about the past get answered by experts. Most of our moderation policy is designed to ensure that we maintain an environment in which people with expertise want to contribute, and to ensure that those answers, when they do come, are as visible as possible. This means removing low-effort or off-topic posts.

Fortunately for everyone involved, we do not moderate the rest of Reddit, or even the various other history-related subs such as r/history, r/AskHistory and many others. No one is forcing you to use this particular sub for your reddit-related history needs, but if you do use it, we expect you to abide by our rules.

Honestly I disagree. This subreddit is designed to supply detailed and most importantly correct information and that's what I find interesting.

If you're looking for more speculative answers and discussion of them may I suggest r/askhistory or more immediate answers: wikipedia?

90% of those 'interesting posts' are one line of nothing. The subreddit does allow discussion, such as follow up questions and follow up discussion of points in an answer. You're missing very little, and the million people subscribed to this subreddit like to be able to cut through the deluge of crap to get good answers where they exist. This practise is integral to the success of the subreddit. Sorry you don't like it, but there are many other history based subreddits that meet your lower standards such as r/history and r/askhistory.

Hi there. We are sorry to hear that you disagree with our moderation policies, but we won't be changing them, as the majority of our over a million subscribers like them. You may have a different definition of 'interesting posts' to us, but here's statistics on how many questions get answers and how many posts get deleted etc which show that lots of posts get interesting comments (as far as we're concerned).

Luckily for you, history can be discussed in /r/history and you might find posts that you consider 'interesting' at /r/askhistory.
