How did pagan god names for the days of the week in various languages survive the middle-ages, inquisition and eras of Catholic dominance in Europe?

In Spain home of the Spanish inquisition, 5 days belong to other religions. In English 4. I thought the Catholic church was very aggressive at stomping out pagan influence.
