See if you can find Peter Frankopan’s book The Call From The East and/or Paul Cobb’s The Race for Paradise. What’s especially important here is the question of how the Crusades impacted the relationship between Western and Eastern Christianity, and between the two I think you’ll find a lot of material to work with!
