German science and German scientists had been world-leading at the turn of the century. The Germans had basically invented the modern research university, and newly-unified Germany supported research. For example, a crucial pre-WW1 German advance was the Haber process, for fixing nitrogen, without which WW1 might have ended years earlier, due to German lack of nitrogenous fertilisers and nitrogen for explosives.

However, other countries caught up, and the German economy suffered from WW1 and afterwards, so Germany lost its dominance. By WW2, German science was a feeble shadow of what it had been, and made worse by the Nazi attack on Jewish scientists. Movies about Nazi WW2 super-scientists and super-weapons are largely fictional, and we can safely ignore them in a historical discussion (as far as reality, rather than post-WW2 fiction, is concerned).

Germany was ahead in one field: rocketry. This is largely due to state support of research, to make up for restrictions on the German air force. In other fields that were important in the war, such as radar research, nuclear weapons, and chemical weapons, the UK and USA were well ahead. Germany and the UK were close to level in jet propulsion research, and the Germans, even without limitations due to available raw materials, were not going to develop super-jet-fighters enormously ahead of the UK.

Germany was not developing super-soldiers, and other technology was comparable, inferior, or ahead in small niche fields (e.g., rocketry).
