I ran across this white triangle with a U in it https://i.imgur.com/q2Jul3Y.png in a movie recently and can't figure out what it means.
I've found the usual charts for prisoner markings but there seems to be nothing like it.
I am wondering if anyone can help me figure out if it's either a real thing or just made up movie bull.

It's the latter. As you can see in the official prisoner badges table, there were no white triangles. Neither does a google search bring up anything.
The letter U, however, would mean Ungar(isch)/Ungarn (Hungarian/Hungary) in a real badge, since these letters specified the nationality (in the table two examples are given - P (Pole), T (Tscheche, Czech)). Though I should mention that at least one source I found says it refers to Ukrainians. Maybe it was both.
I think we all know that directors don't always care about historical accuracy.
