I would suggest you check the Sunday Digest for a selection of answered posts. There are a few others in the main page as well.

Coming up with an answer may take some time - and also relies on the effort and good will of those who are writing it. As for deleted posts, the rules exist to encourage answers that maintain a certain standard. So we have to expect a certain number of deleted comments, when users either unknowingly or knowingly miss the mark (and there's also spam and the usual racism/bigotry etc.).

Aside from that, I think this sub does provide a lot of content, but you need to be somewhat more patient than the average subreddit demands. It's really up to you.

This isn't a 3rd grade soccer team where everybody gets the same amount of playing time and a trophy and it isn't an episode of The Price is Right where everyone can just shout out their best guess for the price of that dining room set. Best to have a question unanswered than have the sub degenerate into a bunch of "well my best guess" type comments.

That's not to say that the mods can't occasionally struggle a bit with consistency and clarity when it comes to enforcing rules, but in my own experience here it is a rarity.

Other people have done my gig and linked to the Sunday digest, and there's also a twitter and Facebook, but I think the trick to find good answers on here comes down to patience.

Good answers take time. Like, lots of time. We're talking about anywhere from 5-10 hours easily. We want those good answers and not the less good answers. Anyone can slam out a one sentence summary of Wikipedia and slap a joke on it. We don't want that. Unfortunately that means we need patience.

So how can we help with that? Personally I often save interesting threads in my favorites and come back in a day or two. But that's to much work, how else can we fix this. Well every Friday we have a special Summary Bot that highlights some of the best voted answers of the week. There's also a browser extension that changes the comment count to be more accurate.

Ultimatly though all those are stop gaps to help us while we wait for writers, historians and just all round awesome people write up those truly amazing threads. Seriously, go to the Digest and pick a random link. See what that kind of quality is like. That's why we have 100,000 people. That's what we offer compared to other history subs and sites.

It's not to everyone's taste, but it's certainly not broken or pointless. I for one love it here!
