I’m watching Anne with an E, a story set on Prince Edward’s Island in 1899. The characters are 16 years old, and yet are still wearing knee-length skirts and aren’t wearing corsets yet. A character mentions that corsets start being worn at 17. This seems late to me. I was under the impression that girls started wearing longer and longer dresses starting at the onset of puberty, and were wearing corsets as soon as they started developing as well. Are there any sources on this subject?
