I don't want to be rude, but there is an entire sub for that - /r/askhistory. If you want any answer to your question, good or bad ask it there; if you want just the good ones, ask it here. If you want to read both good and bad answers, browse there; if you want to read only good answers, browse here. There's no point in us replicating that dynamic when it already exists elsewhere.
There's two issues we see with this proposal:
We would still have to moderate People are still going to make joke and offensive comments. People do it enough in a space where they are explicitly not allowed, and we can only imagine loosening those rules would worsen it.
That's not the mission of this sub This sub exists to connect the public with academic history. I don't go to a sub for fan art of a show and ask them to allow discussion too, and I don't go to a sushi bar and ask them to serve hamburgers. When these places deviate too much from their main goal to invest in another, they end up doing both worse than if they had stuck to one. Try /r/history or /r/askhistory if you want a less moderated space.
