Related/Followup question: Is "appropriation" the right word, here? I know that the swastika has a European history, too. It's known on churches across Europe, and I believe that there are some truly ancient swastika inscriptions. I suppose it's not too surprising that a simple and elegant symbol should appear in more than one culture.

And, regardless of whether or not it originally is an Indian symbol, did the Nazis think of it as such?
