The watch was given to my parents former tenant as a gift for his military service in the USA, he left it behind and his caretaker said he doesnt want it. Its 14k gold, and inscribed on the inside it says "Presented to _________ by F.T. Sanford (or F.J. Sanford, I cant really tell) in recognition of five years of faithful service 1908-1913".
Plz dm if youre interested in seeing it but I cant find a darn thing about this mystery person who gifted this watch. It still works too! Id love to know more but honestly I cant find a damn thing about the company who made it or anything!
It says "Louis D'Esposito by F.T. Sanford". Looks like the front case cover also "LDE" as a monogram.
It says "New York" but also "Swiss"; the implication here is the watch body was made in the USA by this Reynolds & Son but the movement inside is a Swiss-made one by someone else. You'd need to take the back off to identify it, but odds are it's a fairly generic one. But you'd be more likely to find information on that.
You might want to be a bit careful with it, it if hasn't been serviced (cleaned) in a long time, and odd are it hasn't. The oil can get thick and gummy with time and if the coils of the springs (hairspring, mainspring) stick together, they can bend or break. (any decent shop that services mechanical watches ought to be able to do it; pocket watches are basically the same inside as mechanical wristwatches. Just slightly bigger.)
