It is common opinion between scientists that Homo sapiens evolved around 200,000 years ago. It is also known that agriculture and sheep-farming were invented around 12-15,000 years ago.
What did happen in the 185,000 years before? Why have humans not developed pastoralism and agriculture before?

TLDR: the transition to the neolithic period (and from there to the urban period) were caused both by expanding populations of humans, as well as major environmental changes. There are a lot of things that happened in between those two events, and these transitions in human lifestyles took place over long time periods. It wasn't as quick of a magical "switch" as it can seem when you only list a single date of change.
