I grew in Zambia and I personally love that country, so I am curious, what are some good historical books to read that show and talk about Zambian history? I would love to read up more on my home country. I am an Italian who grew up in Zambia but I still identify a lot with the Zambian culture. I would really appreciate any help that you can give.
B. J. Phiri's A Political History of Zambia (2006) is about the only general work I can immediately point to. If you're talking about particular cultures, or parts of the country, or eras of its past, that becomes trickier because the literatures vary. A lot of the material on Barotseland [sic], the Rhodesian era, and the like is very narrow and in academic journals. Phiri's book is easily the best general history, but even it must leave a great deal out.
