Hi! I have had a sudden interest about the history of the Roman empire; from the beginning and how it became so powerful; to the fall of the western Roman empire and how it continued as the bizantine empire.
As the title says I was looking for recommendations in books to learn about all of this.
For an introductory survey of Rome from her foundation to the time of Constantine, I recommend Boatwright et al, The Romans from Village to Empire (link). This is a basic college-level textbook which covers all the bases, more or less. Then you will need to switch to a different book for Late Antiquity and the "fall of the West" transitioning to Byzantium. Maybe Lee's From Rome to Byzantium (2013) or Gregory's A History of Byzantium 2nd ed (2010).
