Countries like Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco or San Marino remained independent even though they were surrounded by bigger, more powerful countries. How did they managed to avoid being annexed, when many big countries were occupied for centuries? Isn’t it’s reasonable to think that their big neighbours could’ve invaded and occupied them in a matter of days? Are there any resources further discovering this matter?
