I suck at history and my high school teachers also didn't help much to spike my interest. But now I realize it's quite important for the understanding of where I'm standing and culture. So I want to start over and go from the beginning.
What titles do you recommend? Or videos, anything comprehensive.
You'll never scratch even the surface with a world history book. However, a starting place I would recommend would be "The History of the World" 6th edition by J. M. Roberts. It is nowhere comprehensive, but it does mostly only include things that have left an impact on the modern world.
Not to most scholarly book but if you want a ‘general’ overview of history, a brief history so to speak. That is good at conveying chronological time and is easy to read I would suggest the Eyewitness companion to World History. The company is better known for travel books but it’s a good starting place to then try and narrow down what areas are of most interest to you.
