Today:

Welcome to this week's instalment of /r/AskHistorians' Sunday Digest (formerly the Day of Reflection). Nobody can read all the questions and answers that are posted here, so in this thread we invite you to share anything you'd like to highlight from the last week - an interesting discussion, an informative answer, an insightful question that was overlooked, or anything else.

Time relentlessly trudges on, marching onward towards the end of the year. Once again we spend some time to thank those brilliant writers who tackled hundreds of fascinating history questions each month. Upvote those answers, thank the authors, and feel free to shout out in this thread which ones you liked the best.

We have some great special features again this week. So make sure to check out the following:

We Announced the Best of November Awards Winners!

Then we had the fantastic IAMA an historical archaeologist who researches the period 1100-1750AD. I work on a range of topics, from earthquakes to medieval villages, but this AMA focuses on the archaeology and history of prisoners of war in the 17th century, especially Scots immigrants who were transported to New England. Thanks to /u/Chris_archaeologist!

The second episode in the second season of our Floating Feature! All the World is a Stade, so what will you share upon it from 776 to 202 BCE? Its Vol. II of 'The Story of Humankind'

There’s still lots of time to join in yesterday’s floating feature! Come write about The Maurya Know about History, the more you have to share. What will you share about 322 BCE to 260 CE? Its Vol. III of 'The Story of Humankind'!

Then we've got another AMA today! Hi! I’m Jeremy Swist. AMA about Greco-Roman antiquity in heavy metal, Rome’s 7 Kings, or the emperor Julian, thanks to /u/MetalClassicist!

Don’t forget the Thursday R&R for all your book or source finding needs.

The Friday Free For All had some great stuff. From Epic Rap Battles of History, to book lists, H-Bomb stories and more!

Take a break from your regularly scheduled Saturday Showcase programing, to see a different kind of post from /u/Klesk_vs_Xaero.

That wraps up another Sunday Digest for me. Keep your eye out, at some point before the end of the year we’re going to want to know what you thought the best answer of the year is! Put your thinking cap on, and choose wisely….

Raise a glass and show some love for those questions that caught your eye, but remained overlooked. Perhaps some wandering expert will spy these random encounters and answer them for that sweet, sweet experience.

Personal request; Start asking lots of Hanukah, Christmas or other December related holiday questions please! I have a project and I’m collecting fun questions.

/u/King_Lunis asked Are there any oral traditional relating to the ancient movements of people?

There’s still plenty of people holding out hope in the Short Answer to simple Question thread.

/u/LilSmore asked Did the Ottoman Empire ever consider itself European?

Thanks for the mention.
