So this may be a shot in the dark, but just maybe there is someone out there who does. Why did great Britain test their nuclear weapons in Australia instead of testing them near their own Homeland? This has been killing me. Thank you to those who are smarter than me :)
Because the British isles are geographically small and densely occupied. Nuclear nations generally tested their nuclear weapons in areas that were relatively sparsely occupied, because of the threat of radioactive contamination and other effects. So you can't really test in the UK, or Western Europe in general — too many people, too close together.
The UK tested in Australia and the Pacific Ocean. France tested in Algeria and the Pacific.
