Has radiation ever been used as a form of torture?

The closest to this that comes to my mind is the use of X-rays by the Nazis for forced sterilization. The idea here was that it would be easier and cleaner to just expose gonads to fairly high doses of X-rays than to undertake surgery (the surgery for men is relatively straightforward — a vasectomy can be done under local anesthesia — but for women the options are much more invasive and require general anesthesia, which raises the risks). It was authorized for use as early as 1936, and was apparently used in about 12% of their sterilization cases (so around 48,000 people; this is from Proctor, Racial Hygiene, 109). One of the options for the "Final Solution" that was discussed was the use of X-rays to sterilize all Jews; apparently Hitler himself rejected it (Proctor, 206).
