Books on Jacobite Rebellion?

by Zeerich15

Do you guys know any books on the Jacobite Rebellion? I'm talking about a well researched book, that gives a good background on the rebellion, what the rebellion was like, and the aftermath. I want the book to explain the foreign relations and aid the Stuarts got, the House of Stuart after the Glorious Revolution, the influence Catholicism had, how much local support there was for the House of Stuart, the battles and tactics used in the rebellion, Charles Stuart after the rebellion and so on. So guys, many book recommendations on the Jacobite Rebellion that is well researched?

The Jacobite era lasted around a hundred years and included three major and two minor military campaigns (risings or rebellions), so there's a lot of action to cover. Though they were all related in name and in the essential goal of re-establishing the Stuart monarchs upon the throne of the Three Kingdoms of Britain and Ireland, the movement and its related causes shifted and changed as the era progressed. There are numerous books that will give you solid overviews of the entire era, and thrice as many that narrow down into specific aspects of the Forty-five, which was the final and most militarily effective of the campaigns.

You might like to consider some of the choices on the 'list of 'essentials' that I've recently posted on my research blog, Little Rebellions, which covers different aspects of the Jacobite era from the perspective of academic history. I'll be posting other reading lists in the coming months that will cover other categories, like popular history, military history, and archival collections.

Hope this helps a bit with your search,
