I watched the movie “The Resistance Banker” and got to know that Wally and his group of bankers robbed the Nazi government in Netherlands and used the money to finance the resistance movement as well as help families in hiding. Now since Anne Frank’s father Otto Frank was a businessman, and they were also living in Netherlands, I wonder if Wally or his group knew Anne Frank’s family.
Dutchman here, as far as I can find out through Dutch sources Wally van Tuyl, or Walraven van Hall, which is his real name, did not have any personal knowledge of or relation with Otto Frank. When Otto came the Netherlands in 1933 he was already a successful businessman in Germany but moved to the Netherlands to avoid persecution.
While it is possible that Wally had knowledge of the company or products of Otto, it is unlikely that the two ever met. Otto lived in Amsterdam while Wally worked in Zutphen until 1940, after which he worked in Zaandam.
It should also be noted that in the Netherlands the "resistance" was not a singular group or organisation but rather a number of splintered factions, groups and movements with different means of resistance, some passive and some more violent. Only in the last few years of the war did the resistance become more organised and did several groups merge into one.
The organisation of which Wally was a part, the Nationaal Steunfonds of NSF, provided funds to a large number of these groups but also provided financial aid to military veterans, families of sailors (Dutch sailors who were in the Dutch colonies or serving in the navy), people who were going on strikes and of course to hideaways and groups supporting them. But it is unlikely that Wally would personally know many of the people who benefitted from the funds given out by the NSF, seeing as they would be redistributed by organisations helping specific groups of people.
