Today:

Welcome to this week's instalment of /r/AskHistorians' Sunday Digest (formerly the Day of Reflection). Nobody can read all the questions and answers that are posted here, so in this thread we invite you to share anything you'd like to highlight from the last week - an interesting discussion, an informative answer, an insightful question that was overlooked, or anything else.

Gankom

It’s the final digest of the year, and the final chance to shout out those overlooked posts that still cry out for the attention of an expert. Feel free to post up your own questions, or those that caught your eye.

/u/the-samizdat asked about Confederacy interest in the Caribbean.

/u/BaklazanKubo asked Cross - a symbol of Cristianity and various types of Roman capital punishment.

/u/papacatto asked did Napoleon dug out the pyramids ? if yes how and where did all the sand go ?

It’s the last Digest of the year, and I bring you yet another of the finest compilations of history threads to ever grace the sub. It’s been a fairly quiet week this time, everyone was out enjoying the holidays and visiting family.

Start of with the amazing Floating Feature: Come and tell a story for me about history from 1098 to 1405! It's Volume VI of 'The Story of Humankind'!

There’s another feature today! Nows your chance to write a post for Askhistorians! Take your chances and write up a post for Floating Feature: Come and share your favorite history from 1360 to 1492! It's Volume VII of 'The Story of Humankind'!

Then move on to the festive TIL Tuesdays: So you like The Nutcracker? "A pantomime absurd in conception and execution, which could please only the most uncultured spectators," wrote an 1892 reviewer. It "can under no condition be called a ballet." Tell me secrets of your holiday traditions!

The Thursday Reading and Recommendations had some brilliant reading lists and suggestions. In particular, check out the one by /u/EnclavedMicrostate for some good Opium and Taiping Wars reading.

Don’t forget the final Friday Free For All.

/u/Klesk_vs_Xaero continues their feature in the Saturday Showcase!

And that thus ends out the year for us. I’ll see you all in the new year! Happy New Years everyone!
