I'm wondering if anyone might be able to direct me to any books or articles about the founding and rise of the BBC? I'm trying to understand how it has risen to such prominence on the global stage.
Also, might there be other subreddits that might be able to help shed light? I had considered r/scholar and r/askacademia, though I don't suspect the latter would be so useful.
Thanks for at least reading this post!
Charlotte Higgins' The new noise: The Extraordinary birth and troubled life of the BBC is a very good account of Aunty Beebs creation and rise to power in the UK, without failing to cover the difficulties that it brought. It's a very balanced read and gives a detailed overview of the beeb from the people who were there at the time.
For a very dry and academical read, Asa Briggs' The History of Broadcasting in the United Kingdom: Vol 1-5. Very detailed and factual, But a slog of a read. Dry and without a heart, it retells the facts very well but with little to make you want to read more
Regarding articles, I will keep hunting for you.
