Fact checking a family story about the Titanic.

by jeronimus_cornelisz

There's a story in my family about a relative who was allegedly scheduled to travel on the Titanic but missed the departure. I have no idea if it's true or not, but are there any verified instances of this happening? People who were scheduled to sail as passengers or crew but either missed the departure or deserted at the first port?

I have the same story in my family, although the account varies on whether they missed it due to being late or not being too ill. Despite this, I have conducted my own research on it and there is no evidence to suggest that the person ever bought a ticket.

Here is a resource for seeing what passengers had bought a ticket for the voyage but never actually went on the ship. 18 passengers in Queenstown (Cobh) had bought tickets but never boarded, although some of these tickets were purchased in somebody else's name so it is difficult to determine who was actually planning to board.
