Hi! New to this subreddit and I was just curious if anyone’s stumbled on detailed accounts of the life of Charles II, you know, the super inbred king who died childless and ended the Spanish dynasty. He’s such a fascinating character to me, particularly because I feel a lot of sympathy for the man. What a rough life.
I'd recommend The resilience of the spanish monarchy 1665-1700 , I shines a more sympathetic light on Charles efforts to keep the empire together on what is often considered the time of greatest decline of Spain's power. It focuses on Charles II and his ministers, so if you are looking for something more biographic I'd go somewhere else.
