I am curious about this because I have found a lot of info about food, table manners, eating from trenchers, straw on the floor, even the different functions of the inn (for example, money lending, etc.

But this doesn't paint a complete picture for me.

Was an inn run by a family, or was there staff? What different roles were there (cooks, brewers, cleaners, laundry doers,??

Did the innkeeper go to the market for food, or did merchants come to them?

Did they prepare food themselves?

Did they brew their own beer, wine and ale, like ale houses did?

Were they wealthy?

Did the locals come to the inn for drinks, maybe even food, as well?

Did they own cats to keep the rodents away?

Was there music? Who provided the music?

Etc.

It seems like many popular fiction sources have or wrong and I would love to know more about the life of an innkeeper.
