I've read that when Zoroastrianism was still a significant minority religion in Persia, Muslims would torture and kill their dogs in order to provoke revolts which they could then suppress and forceably convert the survivors. Is this a probable tactic and of so, was it used against other minorities?

I've heard some variants of this, but I've never found any attestations of it - it sounds more like something from Parsi polemic than anything that actually happened.

Do you have any idea which era was being referred to?
