The people who you say are trying to lay claim to land that is not theirs, lost their own land many years ago. African-Americans or “black peoples” in diaspora were caught by North African Arabs, enslaved and shipped to various countries controlled by Europeans (England, Spain, France, and others).

These Europeans would beat, torture and rape the African peoples, yes, but another aspect of their suffering was because they were told that they were stupid, incapable, weak or servile. None of these things were true, but the Europeans also did not allow slaves to read or be educated, to learn about their home country. One of the lies Europeans told was that Black Africans could not be civilized because they had never built a large city.

This is a lie, because the city of Timbuktu was settled in 500 BC. The Ethiopian Kingdom of Aksum was a trade haven by 200 AD. The Western African Empire of Songhai was larger than Western Europe in the 15th century AD. Mansa Musa was the greatest ruler of Mali in the 13th century AD, and at one point he was the richest man in the world.

Eventually, these black peoples began to rebel against the Europeans. They knew that they were capable of many great things.

However, because Europeans did not allow for Black Africans to get a good education, the only ancient African city that they were exposed to was the Northern country of Egypt, mostly because in 1920, Europeans started to excavate ancient Egyptian tombs. They stole relics and brought the treasures back to their country and put them on display.

Because Black Africans only had primary exposure to Egypt, that is what they latched onto as a symbol of pride, a symbol of kingship and greatness. Proof that they are more powerful than Europeans will ever admit.

Additionally, Europeans scrambled different tribes together during slavery so they could not talk to each other, nor remember where they had come from. Many Black Africans today do not have a record of where they are from or what tribe they belong to, because Europeans did not keep records of such things.

Black Africans are not trying to oust the residents or claimants of North Africa today. They are trying to heal from a past of pain and torture, of a loss of identity. They are trying to remember their own worth and value as people, instead of as slaves. This is why they feel so strongly. It is just unfortunate that they were taught more about North African cities than about the cities that they built themselves.

Europeans permanently damaged the Black Peoples sense of identity because they had no idea where they were from, meaning that they could be from anywhere, and therefore possibly North African.

It is only very recently that DNA testing has become available to the average person, but a love for Egypt and North Africa will prevail for several years more. I myself did not know I had any North African + Middle Eastern blood until I took a DNA test.
