These may be unrelated questions but they have been bugging after having heard Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast and Vox’s Missing Chapter series. Putting aside the quality of the content these to outlets focus on underexposed events or look at known events from a different angle.

How is revisionism received by the community? How do you judge if a particular take is a fair revision or is a product of the bias of the time (if such a thing exists)? And how to know if a collective response to a revision is influenced by biases?

Has the understanding of some events changed over time? Has these changes caused mainly by new information revealed? Or does the context of the times when an event is analyzed influence its understanding?

Sorry for rambling. I am just curious about how you check. I come from a field in sciences that is more or less open to new information and ready for new paradigms. But in some scientific fields, immediacy of experiments and data generation play a part in that.
