I know some NATO countries during the Cold War had a system in there national defense where in certain locations and regions they would hide large quantities of ordinance so in case of a Warsaw Pact invasion they could arm the civilian and act like insurgents/partisan.
My question is what happened to this weapons catches? Was the equipment brought back to military bases? Were the weapons after the Cold War destroyed? Are some of them still "online" and ready to use in case of an foreign incursion?
Well, if these caches are secret, we shouldn't know much about them still existing if they're still being kept secret...
With that being said, and this is probably breaking the 20 year rule, NATO does still have weapons caches in Europe that are ready to be manned by military personnel in case of war. Example is in Hell, Norway:
